Rome brings to mind columns - both Catholicism and the Coliseum. What people don’t think of is the Law of the Twelve Tables (462 BC), the world's oldest recorded law affecting street performers. There are still permit laws in Rome, but they’re not taken very seriously, and many buskers can be found on the trains, playing music and performing magic tricks for passengers.
